Memory Care America

Everyone has a special connection to the holidays. We all grow up with memories of Christmas morning or spending every Fourth of July watching fireworks. These moments are etched into our minds forever, even if dementia takes away our ability to fully comprehend those memories or celebrations.

The common thread of how each of us celebrates is love. It moves us to gather with others and continue our favorite traditions. As a Baptist, I like to think of 1 Corinthians 13:13, which reads ... CONTINUE READING

Memory Care America

Hello, everyone. This month, we want to write this letter together to highlight some very important and delicate topics. Since this pandemic began, we have been working hard to secure our communities and protect our residents, staff, and their families from COVID-19. We're proud to report that we have not had a COVID-19-related death in any of our five communities, and that is thanks, in no small part, to the dedication of our staff and the patience and understanding of our residents' families.

Because of the pandemic, family meals have been replaced with window visits and photos have had to fill in for in-person smiles. It hasn't been easy, but we are so proud of the commitment you have made ů CONTINUE READING

One of our biggest beliefs at Memory Care of Simpsonville is that despite having a diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer's, our residents still have the ability to function no matter where they are on their journey. Here we focus on those abilities by incorporating meaningful activities to allow them to feel loved, to reminisce about their day, and to continue discovering their purpose and passions.

I have been the Director of Life Enrichment at Memory Care of Simpsonville since August 2019, and I continue to grow more passionate about my job each day. We do daily exercises, work on puzzles … CONTINUE READING

Memory Care America

From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Memory Care America’s mission has been to protect our vulnerable residents, our staff, and their families. It wasn't emotionally easy for our families, but we insulated our residents and staff within our facilities, offering window visits, parking lot parades, and many, many photos to put everyone's mind at ease. We created a protective bubble around our communities, and we are proud to say we’ve not had a single recorded instance of COVID-19 in our communities.

As states continue to slowly reopen, our families will soon see their loved ones in person, so we had to put plans in place to continue shielding our communities from the spread of COVID-19 … CONTINUE READING

Moving your loved one into one of our five memory care communities takes incredible strength and trust in professionals to care for your loved one as you would. At Memory Care America, we don’t take this duty lightly, and we deeply care about the residents and families we serve every day.

We know that some of the people who have been the hardest hit by COVID-19 are the elderly and their families, and dementia and memory loss compound the stress of this pandemic. While our residents may not be able to fully comprehend this pandemic, we know they have felt the loss of your daily in-person visits and our community events … CONTINUE READING

As a nurse and the executive director of Memory Care of Naples, my days are busy. I'm often running from one place to the next, guiding interested families through our facility, and ensuring our residents receive the care they need.

Still, I don't work 24/7 — yet, so many caregivers try to.

Memory Care America's team can offer your family round-the-clock care because we have the workforce to do so. We have day teams and night teams, maintenance and dietary staff, and employees who manage our front office and visit with families who are interested in our services … CONTINUE READING

My career as a chef began all the way back in high school when I got a job washing dishes at a cute restaurant that had been converted from an old barn. The cooking staff took me under their wings and taught me the basics of cooking. That's when I learned creating meals was just in my blood.

From there, I didn't take any shortcuts to get to where I am today. I went to school for formal training, and I worked my way up to running my own kitchen and even my own business for a period of time. When Linda Carrasco got in touch about a possible job opportunity more than three years ago, I was ready to seize it. Linda and I had worked together in the past … CONTINUE READING

We started this journey in 2015. Back then, our group wanted to provide better dementia care for families facing a devastating prognosis. We wanted to offer a home where patients with dementia could be cared for by specialists who were experts in treating this complex condition.

With that idea in mind, we opened our first location in Naples, Florida, in 2016, and since then, you’ve trusted our team to care for you and your families, allowing us to expand our care into multiple states.

When we look back at where this all started and how far we've come, we can't help but be in awe. Today, Memory Care America … CONTINUE READING

It's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but when you have a family member living with dementia, December can feel like anything but wonderful. At Memory Care America, we have experienced many of these emotions alongside families.

Some families feel guilty about enjoying the holiday because their loved one isn't home. Others struggle to cope with the loss of Mom's Christmas Eve chili or Dad’s outrageous lawn decor. Young children may not understand why their grandparent doesn’t remember them or be confused by a change in usual plans. Faraway family members may be shocked to return … CONTINUE READING

Sometimes we forget just how small the world really is, and reminders of that truth can be powerful.

Memory Care of New Braunfels, Westover Hills, and executives within Memory Care America hosted guests from the second-largest health maintenance organization (HMO) in Israel over Labor Day weekend. I organized this event this past spring when I happened to meet an Israeli citizen and banker who expressed his admiration for our work. When he had tallied the number of hours we worked each year — which happens to be all hours of the day, every single day — with our highest cost of residential care, he found that we were charging, at most, $1.40 per hour for care … CONTINUE READING

Memory Care America

After decades in elder and memory care, I’ve seen the big strides our field has made. Care facilities are no longer places where families simply bring their loved ones to live out the remainder of their days. There’s no fear of what’s behind those “double doors” in many facilities, and instead, organizations like Memory Care America have created communities that focus on care for families and older adults struggling with the effects of dementia. We use evidence-based practices and goals to improve the quality of life for each of our residents and their families.

It’s been tremendous to be at the … CONTINUE READING

Memory Care America

For the past 30 years, I've dedicated my career to the health care field and older-adult care. It might sound crazy to some people, but I honestly believe God placed me on this earth to care for elderly people. It's what I have always loved to do, and I cannot imagine doing anything else.

In the early stages of my career, I was a social worker for a nursing home. I noticed this strange phenomenon of children bringing their seemingly healthy parents in for long-term care … CONTINUE READING
